Take Carl and Karin’s garden home with you as inspiration for your own garden. This book tells you how Carl and Karin created their garden more than a century ago – and turned what had been a slagheap into a unique work of art. Lilla Hyttnäs is the place where love, beauty and weeds all thrived, or as Carl put it: “Flowers, beloved children of the earth! What flights of fancy in your form, what brightness in your colour, what scents from your cups, what heavenly purity. And then come the little children themselves; for however snotty their noses may be, they are still the purest of beings next to you. Flowers and children, I should really never paint anything else, for it’s them I love the most.”
In our garden book we also describe the floods that hit Lilla Hyttnäs, all the buildings at the homestead and all about the crayfish – the household’s favourite crustacean. And we tell you more about the artist that gave flowers the leading role in his paintings and the French kitchen garden the couple created in the middle of Sundborn.
And please do visit the artists’ home at Lilla Hyttnäs in Sundborn, Sweden, that Carl described in 1918 as “The place around which the entire earth spins – that’s how remarkable it is.”
